Do You Exercise?

We all know exercise is important, but do we actually do it?

According to the American Medical Association website:

The AMA encourages all physicians to utilize the health potentialities of exercise for their patients as a most important part of health promotion and rehabilitation, and urges state and local medical societies to emphasize through all available channels the need for physical activity for all age groups and both sexes.

If it’s so good for us, then why do we avoid exercise?

Now to look at me, you wouldn’t see a big difference, but here are some of the benefits I’ve discovered:

  • When I get up and exercise the first thing in the morning, it gets my eyes open!  Even after a good night, I still need to shake those cobwebs off.  I am more alert and feel more able to tackle the day.  Know why?  Exercise releases endorphins; those feel-good hormones we need to help our brains function!
  • Exercise helps me to breathe deeper, enabling the vocal chords to cooperate better in choir practice!  I also avoid feeling winded when going up and down stairs!
  • My ligaments and joints seem more limber after a workout.
  • A brisk walk invigorates!

This month at www.flylady.net, the main emphasis is to get moving!  Do something to get your heart rate up every day.  Check out the articles about wearing the right shoes for the job; it will amaze you what a difference they can make.

My favorite low-impact activities include two videos:  Stormie Omartian’s First Step Workout and Kathie Lee Gifford’s Feel Fit & Fabulous Workout .  But get me outdoors, any day!  I love to ride bikes on the bike path at Presque Isle in Erie, PA.

What’s your favorite form of exercise?
