Parenting is a tough job. Don't you wish the hospital would have sent a manual home, explaining your child's temperment and gifts? I've been looking over the results of the Myers-Briggs inventory I took years ago; couldn't babies be fitted before leaving the maternity ward?
Thom Black has a book out called Born to Fly. He uses tools to help parents understand their child's abilities, and the ways to direct those inborn talents. By placing your child in an environment where they can thrive, you're setting them up to succeed!
I've seen parents at ballgames who bullied their kids into being on the team. The child had no desire to be there, and was miserable. Not only did their self-esteem suffer, but they felt embarrassed in front of their peers. If they were placed in the chess club or 4H club or newspaper staff at school, maybe they would get a chance to shine in their own element!
I think I'll resolve to work harder at studying my kids. Maybe they'll yet teach me a thing or two about being their mom!
