How about letting that be a way to connect to others?  When shyness prevents us from reaching out, it robs us of the joy we could find in friendships!  I'm a task-oriented person, so I can make small-talk easier when centered around a project.  It breaks down barriors when we do something in common!

Today is play day at my house!  Some of my girlfriends are coming over to scrapbook together.  Everyone brings their own scrapbooking stuff and food to add to the meals, and we make a whole day of it.  By getting ideas from others, it gives us a jump start on our own pictures and gets the creative juices flowing.  We share our handy dandy tools and lots of laughter.  It builds more memories.  And that's what friends are made of!
