One of the hardest parts of growing up is the insecurity of not knowing where to fit in with the world. By spending time with people who care, that child is building a strong foundation for life. Iannuzzi adds, “Research confirms that students with involved parents – no matter their income, ethnic group or background – are more likely to attend school regularly, earn higher grades and test scores, have better behavior and social skills, graduate high school and, more often, go on to college.” What gives Richard Iannuzzi such lofty ideas? He’s been a teacher for 34 years, and is now president of the 585,000-member New York State United Teachers. He has learned the value of partnership between the home and school.
