Read Matthew 16:21-28
Consider this: “Peter took Him aside…” Matthew 16:22 (NRSV)
During my college years, I felt like God was lax in putting together the details for my future. So I pulled the Lord aside to “set Him straight” on my plans. I had great plans for how He could use me for His kingdom work. And I was in a hurry. But God didn’t seem to have the same agenda. It’s amazing how hindsight sets things straight. That waiting time in my life proved to be a maturing time. I needed to grow up and learn to submit to the Lord.
I have to admit that college wasn’t the last time I tried to plan things out for God. Because of this, I can identify with Peter’s need to guide Jesus. However, if Jesus had listened to Peter, He would have violated God’s plan. We would have no Savior nor hope for a better life. The only way God’s plan for salvation could be accomplished was through His Son’s death on the cross.
Next time I prepare to brief God’s ear in my behalf, may I remember that it is in my best interest to leave the details up to Him!
Lord, I surrender my agenda to You. I know Your timing will never be too late. Amen.
