God sought relationship with the people He created. But we lived in darkness. We didn’t know how to reach out to Him. So The Lord decided to send His Son to walk among the people. Christmas is the day set apart to celebrate Christ’s birth.
Charles Colson says it like this,
The remarkable promise that God made to Moses-that He would pitch His tent and dwell in the midst of His people-is a central theme throughout Scripture. In the familiar passage of John 1, “The Word became flesh, and dwelt among us,” the Greek word for dwelt literally means to “pitch a tent.” Through Christ, God comes to “pitch His tent” among His people…
From Exodus to Revelation we find the identical imagery: a holy God “pitching His tent” among His people. First in the tabernacle, then in Christ, and ultimately in His kingdom. By pitching His tent in our midst, God identified with His people through His very presence. The reality of a “God who is here”-personal and in our midst-is an extraordinary assurance, one that distinguishes the Judeo-Christian faith from all other religions. I am changed because God dwells with me. I no longer live in darkness, but have a relationship with my heavenly Father. And the Good News is that the invitation is open to all people!
