Playing Monopoly in Real Life

Do you ever feel like you’re trading and bartering for more time?  We trade one season of school sports for the next season of activities.  We dream of next month, when things will slow down, yet the calendar is just as full on the next page turn.  Where do you find ways to beat the clock?

In Experiencing God, Henry Blackaby says “We adjust our lives to God so He can do through us what He wants to do.  God is not our servant to make adjustment to our plans.  We are His servants, and we adjust our lives to what He is about to do.  If we will not submit, God will let us follow our own devices.  In following them, however, we will never experience what God is waiting and wanting to do in our behalf or through us for others.”

Do we have the capacity to change our schedules, or does the plan own us?  What if my calendar is packed too full to make an adjustment to God’s plans?  When I’m bartering with sleep to get things done, I can’t fully function the next day anyway!  When I’m exchanging mealtimes to run to the next appointment, I’m compromising my health!

What monopolizes your time?  Is it over commitment or clutter or….?  Could you come alongside someone else to mutually lighten your loads?  How about cooking meals together like the authors suggest in Cooking Among Friends: Meal Planning and Preparation Delightfully Simplified?  How about carpooling with other moms to your kids’ activities?  Sharing that time with another can be an encouragement to both of you!

In One Month To Live, Kerry and Chris Shook ask how we would live differently, if we knew we only had one month left?  I struggle with that, because I don’t know what I would change.  My family still has to be fed and clothed, so I would continue cooking and doing laundry.  Maybe the question isn’t so much about activity, as it is intention.  I would be intentional about saying, “I love you.”  I would be intentional about saying, “Thank you.”  And I would be intentional about the choices I make each day.

How would you spend your last days?

I have heard it said slightly differently...whatever consumes your time and thoughts...that is your god. Wow...powerful.

Found you today through Higher Calling Blogs. :)

Yes, the key word: "consumes." We get wrapped up in many things, and yet have so little to show for the time invested. It's time to be intentional!
Thanks for stopping by, Kaye!
