How do Social Networks affect your lifestyle?

Over the last month I have realized a long-time goal of setting up an account on Facebook.  In the meantime, I was invited to join friends on Plaxo, Linkedin, Myspace.com, Diva Celebration, Twitter, and more.  How does a mere mortal keep up with so many accounts?  Has it been duplication, or does each network fill a different niche?

I’ve been amazed at how many people are on Facebook.  I’ve reconnected with some friends for the first time since high school!  My daughter said the other day that it just doesn’t seem right to have so many old people on the “teen” site.  Hmmm.  I guess I need to sprinkle powdered sugar in my hair and wear bifocals on the tip of my nose!

Linkedin seems to target the business niche more.  To someone who is still learning the ropes, it looks like Plaxo and Diva Celebration attract people regionally. I feel like I’m meeting new people all of the time, even though I’m not leaving the comforts of my own home.

But all of this networking takes time!  My blog feels like an orphan!  While I’m learning to balance time between each project, I’m finding it more and more urgent to look back at those goals that were so important in the first place.  Otherwise, they become a misplaced entity and I get derailed!  A wise person once said, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.”

Maybe that could be a plug for a variety of networks.  When I learn how to juggle all those baskets, I’ll let you know.  In the meantime, let me know how you manage the time you spend networking, and where.  Maybe we can get a handle on this thing together!
