Slavery and Human Trafficking

A parent’s worst nightmare is captured in the movie, Taken.  Two high schoolers vacationing in Europe are targeted and kidnapped.  The journey takes them into drugs, prostitution, death for one, and slave trade for the other.

“Oh, it’s just the movies,” one might say.

We can’t close our eyes any longer to the horrible truth.  This is real.  And it happens every day.

The movie brings to life the awful truth that it could be my daughter or yours.  It’s not just a bunch of people somewhere in another part of the world.  But it hits home.  As we watch the desperation of the dad in search of his daughter, it becomes personal.

My friends Becky and Kathy have become advocates for women caught in the slave trafficking web, and formed Freedom4All2Day.  They understand how important it is for us to be educated, in order to take a stand against evil.  Here are some sites to get more information:

            www.StandAgainstTrafficking.com

            www.iast.net

            www.humantrafficking.org

            www.polarisproject.org/

            www.thelovealliance.net

Our shopping habits can be another way to help.  World Hope says “Demand ‘slave-free’ goods.  Buy rugs carrying the Rugmark symbol; fair trade coffee, tea and cocoa; shop at ‘fair trade’ stores such as Ten Thousand Villages; look for the Fair-trade label; ask stores to stock fairly traded items.”

People of God, it’s time to put on your armor!  We are in the battle for lives!

Sally
